In Buddhism, the alms bowl, sometimes known as a begging bowl, symbolizes the monk’s vow of renunciation, spiritual practice, and dependence on the lay community for sustenance– representing humility and the relinquishment of material possessions.
Join the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery and make your own ceramic bowl with their help. This is a highly interactive and fun event, perfect for all ages! Bowls with be crafted at the event and will be ready for pickup after drying/glazing/firing, in approximately 3 weeks. Pickup locations will be available in Halifax and Harrisburg.
A $15 fee payable to Wheel of Light Studio will cover the cost of clay/glaze and firings. A suggested donation of $10 will go to support the over 2,000 monks residing at the Drepung Gomang Monastery.
