Do you have a child that is curious to know what it’s like to throw on a potter’s wheel? This 2 hour class is a great way to try clay without the commitment of a 6 week class. Open to children age 8 and up who are big enough to sit at the wheel and work alone, with their parent at the wheel next door to encourage and assist, or a parent willing to share the stool and help and learn along with their child.
Class begins with a focus on centering, followed by how to open, pull up walls, and form a cylinder. Forms and functions will be introduced and demonstrated. No experience is needed. All tools and materials are provided. Depending on skill and ability, some students may make a pot or two. After clean up, those who have made a pot they wish to keep may choose a glaze color. Work will be dried, trimmed, glazed and fired in the following weeks and students will be contacted when their pots are ready to pick up. This can take up to 6 weeks. Students may bring an apron or towel if they wish.
Cost is $55 per person/wheel. If a parent is going to sit at the same wheel to assist a smaller child, they need only book 1 seat.
Short fingernails are strongly recommended.
