A 3 hour class for the introduction to clay where you will learn the basic skills needed to use a potter’s wheel. Class will begin with a focus on centering and compressing the clay, followed by how to open, pull up walls, and form a cylinder. Forms and functions will be discussed and introduced. Students may make a few pots depending on ability and skill development. No experience is needed. All tools and material will be provided. Each student will be given 5 lbs. of clay to work with. After clean up, students who have successfully made pots may choose a glaze color. Pieces will be trimmed, glazed and fired in the weeks following class. Students will be notified when their pieces are ready for pick up. Open to anyone age 16 and up. Students may bring an apron or towel if they wish.
