A 3 hour class for the introduction to clay where you will learn the basic skills needed to use a potter’s wheel. Class will begin with a focus on centering and opening the clay, followed by how to pull up walls, and form a cylinder. Forms and functions will be discussed and introduced. Students may make a few pots depending on ability and skill development. No experience is needed. All tools and material will be provided. After clean up, students who have successfully made pots may choose a glaze color. Pieces will be trimmed, glazed and fired in the weeks following class. Students will be notified when their pieces are ready for pick up. Open to anyone age 14 and up, age 11-14 allowed if a parent/guardian is also registered. Students may bring an apron or towel if they wish. Short fingernails are recommended.
