Event Type

Wheel of Light Studio LLC is proud to host a fabulous skill-building workshop with Quay San.  Quay attended Messiah College, Mechanicsburg, PA where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art. To learn more about Quay San and his art visit his website at www.quaysan.art or follow him on Instagram or Facebook. Join us for two days and learn how to throw bigger and better than before.

We will begin on Friday July 22 from 6-9 pm with demonstrations and lecture by Quay so you can get to know your instructor and see just how big he can throw.  Then on Saturday July 23 from 10 am to 6 pm, you will get your chance to go big…or at least bigger. Quay will begin the day with some hands on activities with students to help them learn how to center more clay than they normally do, then begin to throw larger forms. After a lunch break, the instruction will continue with more time on the wheel for students interspersed with demonstrations and lectures, as well as comfort breaks when needed.

Topics to be covered will include how to increase the size of your work, how to center more than 10 pounds, how to center by stacking the clay, how to throw larger, how to throw stacked vessels, and how to trim big pots. If time allows there may also be a discussing of tips and tricks for glazing bigger work, and how to make sure it fits in your kiln.

The price for the workshop is $90 per person. You may attend to observe and learn but do not have to work on the wheel. If you wish to work on the wheel, we are limited to 8 and students can purchase clay at cost (.50 cents per pound) or provide their own. Clay must be cone 6 if it is to be fired here. Attendees can pack their lunch, or chip in to join an order from the local pizza shop. (Delish!) or walk over to Nae Nae’s, the sandwich shop next door.

Registration is available on the website, details are on the Facebook Page event, or you can stop in or contact Robin at the Wheel.  Please note if you plan to participate on the wheel when you register. Recommended for intermediate or experienced potters, ages 18 and up.
